Neeti Thyroid Clinic is a dedicated unit within the hospital for diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid gland.
We have in house facilities for following diagnostic tests:
- FNAC: A needle biopsy done to determine pathological nature of the swelling
- Rigid Laryngoscopy: Examination of the throat with an endoscope to determine whether the thyroid lesion affects any structures internally specially the vocal folds.
- Intraoperative frozen section biopsy : This technique of intraoperative biopsy helps to decide extent of surgery
Surgeries Performed:
We have a dedicated team with experienced and highly trained surgeons specializing in this field to look after our patients. Anaesthesia for large thyroid swellings tends to be challenging but we have devised specialized techniques like video-assisted and cervical epidural anaesthesia to make these surgeries safer for our patients. .
- Dr Madan Kapre
- Dr Neeti Kapre Gupta
- Dr Vidula Kapre
- Dr Meghana Navakhare
- Dr Rajashree Chaudhari
Following is a list of commonly performed surgeries at the hospital:
- Hemi-thyroidectomy: Excision of the affected lobe of the thyroid gland only
- Total thyroidectomy: Excision of both lobes of the thyroid gland for benign or malignant lesions. Neeti Clinics is the largest volume centre in the entire region to perform maximum thyroid surgeries in a year for nearly more than a decade.
- Central compartment neck dissection: Removal of lymph nodes along the larynx and trachea where the thyroid cancer might have spread.
Specialty Services:
- Intra-operative Nerve Monitoring: Neeti Clinics is the proud owner of the only Neuro-Monitor (NIM 3 by Medtronic) in Vidarbha for thyroid surgeries. Risk to the laryngeal nerve that affects voice is the most dreaded complication of thyroid surgery. The neuro-monitor aids in reducing the risk of such damage during surgery and makes the surgery much safer.
- Harmonic Scalpel Surgery: This is an extremely advanced technology to reduce bleeding while operating in the thyroid region. This is particularly useful for large multinodular swellings or cancer excisions.
- Retro-sternal thyroid Surgery: There are instances when thyroid gland enlarges so much that it actually descends into the chest also. Rarely in such situations, it is required to split the sternal bone. We perform such risky and challenging surgeries with help of team of expert cardio-thoracic surgeons.
- Parathyroid surgery: Patients who have high levels of calcium develop renal stones and fractures. The reason behind this is often a swelling in the parathyroid gland, which are a set of paired glands adjacent to thyroid gland. The drastic correction of Parathormone during surgery confirms successful results.
- Awake Thyroidectomy: Under the experienced skill of Dr Vidula Kapre, our clinic has pioneered the technique of cervical epidural anaesthesia for thyroid surgery. This obviates the risk associated with general anaesthesia. This was a procedure developed at our annual surgical workshop at Chikhaldara, our rural social outreach programme. It has now gained worldwide appreciation. Patient cooperation and correct patient selection however are key factors for the success of this technique.
